GALLIPOLLI, TROY, PERGAMON TOURS

The peninsula of Gallipoli (Gelibolu in Turkish) is a unique landmass in the European part of Turkey. Famous not only for the unique long stretch of land between the Aegean Sea and the Dardanelles Straits – Gallipoli is hallowed ground for many nations, especially Australia, New Zealand and Turkey. Thousands of visitors attend the ANZAC Day service each April and tens of thousands arrive throughout the year to commemorate the famous battles of The Great War.

The name Gallipoli is taken from the Greek word Kallipolis, meaning “beautiful city”x. Settled by Ottoman Turks in the mid 1400s, the Gallipoli peninsula became a staging area for Ottoman expansion into the Balkans. Today the area is mostly remembered for the battles that took place between British and French troops of the Allies against Ottoman troops between April 1915 and January 1916. Most famously, it was where the soldiers of the first ANZAC – the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps – went first into action during the Great War. This campaign became a turning point in the national consciousness of several of the participants. Both Australia and New Zealand still celebrate Anzac Day and the Turks consider it a point of national pride.

We offer several group tours from Istanbul or Izmir. Whether you have one full day or several days to explore the area –our tours are with the most-respected tour agency in the Gallipoli area, offering experienced English-speaking guides and modern non-smoking transportation with A/C – a convenient way to experience Gallipoli during your Turkish holiday. We also offer tours that include Troy and other sites. All of our group tours are also available as private tours; please email us for private tour rates and availability.
